Depends on the community; Cybermind, a list I started with Michael
Current, has been going ten years. Most of the lists run into trouble with
spamming and trolling, but there are some (nettime perhaps another one)
that do manage to survive healthily.

Communities are no longer bound by particular softwares; they move on.
People who know each other on a defunct MOO might communicate on IM.
Community in other words is also mobile, as are the demographics; people
might move from one community to another...
